Thailand Launches TouristDigiPay to Boost Tourism with Crypto

Thailand has unveiled an innovative program, TouristDigiPay, designed to revitalize its tourism sector by enabling foreign visitors to convert cryptocurrencies into Thai baht for local transactions. The 18-month pilot, set to commence in August 2025, targets the recovery of tourist inflows—particularly from China, which has seen a notable decline.

Participants must onboard through regulated digital asset platforms, adhering to stringent KYC protocols. While cryptocurrencies won’t function as direct payment methods, they can be exchanged for baht to facilitate QR-based and electronic purchases. The framework includes safeguards such as spending caps and restrictions on cash withdrawals, balancing innovation with regulatory compliance.

This initiative cements Thailand’s position as a regional leader in bridging digital assets with mainstream tourism economies.
